BillPay Questions
Can I pay bills online through The Provident Bank Bill Payment Service?
Absolutely! One of the conveniences of our system is to allow you to pay bills online, and avoid the need to write out checks, seal envelopes and pay for postage.

How does bill payment work?
To help you understand the process, we have provided a diagram.

How long does it take to set up a new payee in the bill payment system?
Once you have entered a new payee into the Electronic Bill Payment System, it takes two business days to set up the payee to receive payments.

Even though it takes two business days to set up a new payee, can I still enter a bill payment to the new payee during those two business days?
Yes. You may enter a payment to your new payee immediately; however, the payment will not actually be made until the payee is set up. Any payments made to the payee before the payee is added to the system will be delayed in reaching the payee by approximately two business days.

After I make a bill payment, how long does it take for the money to be debited from my account?
The money will be debited electronically from your account within 1-3 business days starting on the business day following the payment date. If you make a payment on Monday, you can expect the money to be debited from your account by Wednesday or Thursday of the same week.

How long does it take for a payment to reach the payee?
A payment that generates an ACH payment will credit the payee's account within 4 business days; whereas, a paper check will take up to 10 days.

How do I actually use the Electronic Bill Payment System?
Step-by-step instructions can be accessed by pressing the help button within Online Banking.

Online Account Opening
Who sees my private information and how is it kept private?
The information you provide is sent directly to Equifax in order to verify the accuracy of your information. 128bit SSL encryption technology ensures that unauthorized parties cannot gain access to your personal data.

Will this affect my credit rating?
The Equifax Identity Verification system will not affect your credit rating; it simply makes a soft inquiry into your credit file.

What is a soft inquiry?
A soft inquiry is used to verify information on your credit record with the information provided on the application form. It does not reveal any personal credit information to eIDverifier . When looking at your next credit report, you will see an inquiry from eIDverifier on the date you opened your account.

What determines a pass/fail rating on the Equifax Identity Verification system?
Based on the number of correct answers you give, Equifax assigns a score to your application. To be allowed to open an account you must reach a score of 74 or above (out of a possible 90) through Equifax.

What happens if I do not pass the Equifax Identity Verification process?
If you do not score high enough on the Equifax rating scale you will not be allowed to open an account online with The Provident Bank.

What should I do if I believe that all the information I provided was correct, yet my application was rejected?
Because we do not have access to your credit file, we can neither verify the information you provided, or override a decision made by Equifax. You must contact Equifax Secure Technical Support for Customers (7 days a week, 24 hours a day) at 1.888.219.2562 to resolve any issues or problems. Once you resolve the issue with Equifax, you may resubmit your application.

I live outside of the U.S. Can I still open an account online with The Provident?
Because Equifax identification verification requires you to enter a valid U.S. social security number, non-U.S. citizens will not be able to apply.

Are there any software requirements to use the Equifax eIDverifier system?
The only requirement is Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher, Mozilla 1.3 or higher and Netscape 6.0 or higher.
